Step by step How do I check my motor plug colour?
How to check which motor plug colour your fatbike has
All you need is a pair of wire cutters and it takes a minute. The colour is on the inside of the motor plug, so you'll need to pull it apart. That's fine: it won't damage the plug.
-
Go to the rear wheel
Put your fatbike on its stand. The motor is in the rear wheel, and one thick cable comes out of it: the motor cable.
-
Follow the motor cable to the plug
The motor cable runs along the frame to the first plug. It's usually held in place with two cable ties. Cut the first one.
-
Cut the second cable tie too
Now the plug hangs free and you can get a good grip on it.
-
Hold the plug on both sides
Hold it by the thick plug housings, not by the thin wires.
-
Pull the plug firmly apart
It's a tight fit, so don't be afraid to pull hard. The plug won't break.
-
Look at the inside
Where the pins stick out you'll see the colour: red or black. That's your motor plug colour.
Not sure if this is the right controller for your fatbike? The tuning guide tells you in 1 minute.

Product information
The benefits at a glance
- 36V - max. 21A
- V8 mini label
- Aluminum housing
- Suitable for: Ouxi V8 Mini (16 inch, 36V battery) with label V8 mini
- Version: 36V, maximum 21A, brushless DC controller, low-voltage protection 30V, aluminium housing
- Speed: factory limit, no tuning function
The V8 Mini is the 36V model of the V8 series and therefore has its own controller; the 48V controllers of the regular V8 do not fit here. This original unit delivers a maximum of 21A and switches off at 30V to protect the battery.
You can recognise the right controller by the V8 mini label on the housing. It controls the motor, display, pedal sensor and brake signals; if your Mini no longer responds when pedalling, the problem is often here. Swapping is a matter of five plugs under the saddle.
Difference between restricted and tunable: it is in the software, not in the number of amps.
