Step by step How do I check my motor plug colour?

How to check which motor plug colour your fatbike has

All you need is a pair of wire cutters and it takes a minute. The colour is on the inside of the motor plug, so you'll need to pull it apart. That's fine: it won't damage the plug.

    Go to the rear wheel

    Put your fatbike on its stand. The motor is in the rear wheel, and one thick cable comes out of it: the motor cable.

    Follow the motor cable to the plug

    The motor cable runs along the frame to the first plug. It's usually held in place with two cable ties. Cut the first one.

    Cut the second cable tie too

    Now the plug hangs free and you can get a good grip on it.

    Hold it by the thick plug housings, not by the thin wires.

    Pull the plug firmly apart

    It's a tight fit, so don't be afraid to pull hard. The plug won't break.

    Look at the inside

    Where the pins stick out you'll see the colour: red or black. That's your motor plug colour.

Done? Push the plug firmly back together (the pins only fit one way) and, if you like, put a new cable tie around it.

V8 Ultra and V8 Ultra Max share the same 500W motor with red plug, so this one controller covers both models. Paired with a tunable display with killswitch the Ultra goes up to 50 km/h; with the killswitch you set it back to 25 km/h on the go.

For the V8 Ultra Mini this is not the right controller: it runs on 36V and has a different version. Also check the colour of your motor plug; black means a different model. Replacing it needs no experience: the saddle comes off and five plugs go over. Riding tuned is only allowed on private or closed-off terrain, away from public roads.

Ouxi V8 Ultra tunable controller: 50 km/h on private property

The Ouxi V8 Ultra combines a 500W motor with a rotation sensor, NFC locking and a built-in alarm. This controller drives that motor. It has a red motor plug and is tunable up to 50 km/h. Use it to replace a faulty or damaged controller.

Which bike is this controller for?

This controller belongs to the Ouxi V8 Ultra. That bike runs on a removable 48V / 15Ah / 720Wh battery and reaches up to 80 km on the lowest assistance. It has front and rear suspension, a long saddle for two people and weighs 40 kg. The V8 Ultra shares its base with the Ouxi V8 Ultra Max, which rides on two batteries. The controller only works with a red motor cable.

Tuning: what is possible and what is allowed

Tuned, the V8 Ultra reaches 50 km/h with this controller. Tuned riding is only allowed on private or enclosed property; on public roads a maximum of 25 km/h pedal assist applies. In the V8 family you tune with a tunable controller or with a tunable display with kill switch. For the V8 Ultra, the tunable M5 display and the tunable HC80 display with NFC are available separately. With the kill switch you set the bike back to 25 km/h.   • Switch the bike off and take the battery out of the frame.
