Step by step How do I check my motor plug colour?

How to check which motor plug colour your fatbike has

All you need is a pair of wire cutters and it takes a minute. The colour is on the inside of the motor plug, so you'll need to pull it apart. That's fine: it won't damage the plug.

    Go to the rear wheel

    Put your fatbike on its stand. The motor is in the rear wheel, and one thick cable comes out of it: the motor cable.

    Follow the motor cable to the plug

    The motor cable runs along the frame to the first plug. It's usually held in place with two cable ties. Cut the first one.

    Cut the second cable tie too

    Now the plug hangs free and you can get a good grip on it.

    Hold the plug on both sides

    Hold it by the thick plug housings, not by the thin wires.

    Pull the plug firmly apart

    It's a tight fit, so don't be afraid to pull hard. The plug won't break.

    Look at the inside

    Where the pins stick out you'll see the colour: red or black. That's your motor plug colour.

Done? Push the plug firmly back together (the pins only fit one way) and, if you like, put a new cable tie around it.

QMWheel V20 Cross tunable controller: the controller with red motor plug for your cross bike

The QMWheel V20 Cross rides over tarmac, sand and gravel on 17 inch tyres that are 70 mm wide. The controller drives the motor of that bike. This tunable version has a red motor plug and delivers 500W. It is supplied restricted and can be tuned up to 45 km/h on private or enclosed property.

Which bike is this controller for?

This controller belongs to the QMWheel V20 Cross. That bike has a 48V / 22Ah / 1056Wh battery, front and rear suspension and a long saddle for 2 people. The controller only works with a red motor cable. So first check the colour of the plug between the motor and the controller.

If you buy the V20 Cross in the Tunable version, this controller is already included. You order it separately as a spare part, to replace a faulty controller or to tune a restricted V20 Cross later.

Out and about with the V20 Cross

When restricted, the V20 Cross is an electric bike with pedal assist up to 25 km/h. You then do not need a driving licence or number plate. The throttle helps you up to 6 km/h, handy when you push the bike through loose sand or walk its 44.7 kg up a slope.

Tuning: what is possible and what is allowed

If you want to ride faster on private property, combine this controller with the tunable H6C display, which fits the V20 Cross. There is also a tunable H6C display with NFC. You activate the higher speed with a tuning code and switch back to 25 km/h with the kill switch. Replacing the controller yourself

You replace it in a few steps:

  • Switch the bike off.
  • Remove the saddle, then you will see the controller.
  • Photograph the connections of the old controller.
  • Connect the 5 cables to the new controller.
  • First take a short test ride in restricted mode.
