Fatbike tuning: the complete guide (2026)

Tunable displays and controllers for fatbikes

Fatbike tuning is one of the questions our WhatsApp specialists get asked most. In this 2026 guide you'll see in a few minutes how it works, what you need for your model and what to look out for.

What is fatbike tuning?

Every fatbike sold as an e-bike is restricted to 25 km/h as standard. That limiter isn't in the motor, but in the electronics. By replacing both the display and the controller with tunable versions, you remove that limiter: the display contains the unlock code and the kill switch, the controller delivers the power. After that, depending on your model, you ride at 45 to 60 km/h.

Two parts: display and controller

  • Tunable display: replace the small screen on your handlebars. Old one off, new one on, plug in: done within fifteen minutes. It contains the unlock code and the kill switch. For Ouxi (HC80 or M5, 50 km/h) and QMWheel (H6C, 45 km/h).
  • Tunable controller: replace the box that drives the motor. A bit more wrenching; without a tunable controller the display stays at 25 km/h. Always check the colour of your motor plug first: red fits red, black fits black.

Which fatbikes can be tuned?

  • Ouxi V8, V8 Pro, V8 Max: via the HC80 or M5 display (up to 50 km/h, with or without NFC: they all fit) or via a tunable controller.
  • Ouxi C80, C80 Pro, C63, H9, Q8: via the HC80 display (up to 50 km/h) or a tunable controller.
  • Ouxi GT2000: via the special tunable controller, up to 60 km/h.
  • QMWheel V20, V20 Pro, V20 Max, S20, V30: via the H6C display (45 km/h) or a tunable V20 controller.

New models: for the Ouxi GT16, GT20, GT20 Pro and GT24 there is a tunable controller for each model, and the HC80 display (with or without NFC) and the M5 display also fit, up to 50 km/h. The Ouxi V8 2025, V8 Ultra and Q8 go up to 50 km/h when tuned, the QMWheel S20 Pro, V20 Pro Skinny Bike, V29 Pro and V20 Cross up to 45 km/h, and the GT2000 and GT2000 2.0 up to 60 km/h.

Not sure which display or controller is fitted to your fatbike? Send a photo via WhatsApp and we'll find the right part for you.

What does tuning a fatbike cost?

A tuning kit is far cheaper than a new, faster fatbike. You'll find the current prices in our tuning kits collection. Ordered before 23:59 = delivered tomorrow.

How difficult is the installation?

Replacing a display is plug-and-play: usually all you need is an Allen key. Replacing a controller takes a little more patience: photograph the cables beforehand and move the plugs over one by one. They only fit one way. If you get stuck, our specialist will help you step by step via WhatsApp.

The legal side: a tuned fatbike is only permitted on private or enclosed grounds; on public roads a 25 km/h limit applies. Many tunable displays have a kill switch that takes you back to the standard 25 km/h in one move.

Frequently asked questions about fatbike tuning

How fast does a tuned fatbike go?

Ouxi models reach up to 50 km/h with a tunable display, QMWheel models up to 45 km/h, and the GT2000 reaches up to 60 km/h with a tunable controller.

Can I tune my fatbike myself?

Yes. Almost anyone can replace a display; replacing a controller takes a little more skill. Our WhatsApp specialist helps you free of charge with choosing and fitting.

Do I keep my warranty after tuning?

We do not give any additional warranty on tunable displays and controllers; your statutory rights continue to apply as normal. In addition, modifying your fatbike may affect the manufacturer's warranty on the bike itself.
