Step by step How do I check my motor plug colour?

How to check which motor plug colour your fatbike has

All you need is a pair of wire cutters and it takes a minute. The colour is on the inside of the motor plug, so you'll need to pull it apart. That's fine: it won't damage the plug.

    Go to the rear wheel

    Put your fatbike on its stand. The motor is in the rear wheel, and one thick cable comes out of it: the motor cable.

    Follow the motor cable to the plug

    The motor cable runs along the frame to the first plug. It's usually held in place with two cable ties. Cut the first one.

    Cut the second cable tie too

    Now the plug hangs free and you can get a good grip on it.

    Hold it by the thick plug housings, not by the thin wires.

    Pull the plug firmly apart

    It's a tight fit, so don't be afraid to pull hard. The plug won't break.

    Look at the inside

    Where the pins stick out you'll see the colour: red or black. That's your motor plug colour.

Done? Push the plug firmly back together (the pins only fit one way) and, if you like, put a new cable tie around it.

The V8 2025 is the updated V8 and has its own controller; the older V8 controllers are not intended for it. This tunable version with red motor plug replaces the original unit and, combined with a tunable display with killswitch, reaches 50 km/h.

A black motor plug on your V8 2025 means you need a different model; check the colour via the Colour Check before you order. Replacing it takes a quarter of an hour and all happens under the saddle. Riding tuned is only allowed on private or closed-off terrain; on the road 25 km/h remains the rule.

This controller is made for the Ouxi V8 2025 with a red motor plug. It drives the 500W motor and decides how much assistance you get. You use it to replace a faulty or damaged controller, or to tune your bike up to 50 km/h. The part comes in compact packaging and you fit it yourself.

Which bike is this controller for?

The controller belongs to the Ouxi V8 2025, the renewed V8 that is also called V8 4.0. That bike runs on a 500W motor with a 48V / 15Ah / 720Wh battery and has a range of up to 75 km. Before you order, check the colour of the plug that runs to the motor. This controller only works with a red motor cable. If you have a black plug, the tunable V8 controller with black motor plug is the better fit.

Tuned riding is only allowed on private or enclosed property; on public roads a maximum of 25 km/h pedal assist applies.   • Switch the bike off before you disconnect any cables.
  • Take the saddle off the bike, then you can easily reach the controller.
  • Compare the plug colour and the number of cables with your old controller.
  • Connect the new controller and test the bike calmly first.
