Step by step How do I check my motor plug colour?

How to check which motor plug colour your fatbike has

All you need is a pair of wire cutters and it takes a minute. The colour is on the inside of the motor plug, so you'll need to pull it apart. That's fine: it won't damage the plug.

    Go to the rear wheel

    Put your fatbike on its stand. The motor is in the rear wheel, and one thick cable comes out of it: the motor cable.

    Follow the motor cable to the plug

    The motor cable runs along the frame to the first plug. It's usually held in place with two cable ties. Cut the first one.

    Now the plug hangs free and you can get a good grip on it.

    Hold it by the thick plug housings, not by the thin wires.

    Pull the plug firmly apart

    It's a tight fit, so don't be afraid to pull hard. The plug won't break.

    Look at the inside

    Where the pins stick out you'll see the colour: red or black. That's your motor plug colour.

Done? Push the plug firmly back together (the pins only fit one way) and, if you like, put a new cable tie around it.

The V29 Pro rides on 29 inch wheels and two batteries, but uses the same motor control as the V20 series. This tunable controller with red motor plug replaces the original one to one and works together with the H6C display with killswitch; with that display you choose between 25 and 45 km/h yourself.

Before you order, check that the plug on your motor cable is red: a black plug does not fit this model. The replacement itself is a job of five plugs, with no tools other than a pair of cutters for the cable ties. Keep the V29 Pro off public roads when tuned; there 25 km/h remains the limit.

QMWheel V29 Pro tunable controller: drive control for the fatbike with two batteries

The QMWheel V29 Pro Dual Battery reaches up to 160 km with two 48V / 15Ah batteries. The controller sits between those batteries and the motor. This tunable version has a red motor plug and delivers 500W. It is supplied restricted and can be tuned up to 45 km/h on private property.

Which bike is this controller for?

The controller is intended for the QMWheel V29 Pro Dual Battery. That fatbike rides on 20 inch wheels and has hydraulic disc brakes, front suspension with dual rear suspension and footrests for a passenger. The controller only works in combination with a red motor cable.

If you order the V29 Pro in the Tunable version, the controller is already included. As a separate part it is intended to replace a faulty or damaged controller, or to tune a restricted V29 Pro later.

What the controller does

The controller regulates how much current goes from the batteries to the motor. That is how it determines the assistance and the speed at which it stops.

Many kilometres, same rules

With two batteries you can ride long distances, but the law stays the same. When restricted, the V29 Pro is an electric bike with pedal assist up to 25 km/h. You then do not need a driving licence, number plate or helmet.

Tuning: what is possible and what is allowed

To tune up to 45 km/h, you need the tunable H6C display in addition to this controller; it fits the V29 Pro. If you want a display with NFC, have a look at the tunable H6C display with NFC. The display works with a tuning code and has a kill switch to switch back to 25 km/h. You can read about tuning in Tuning a QMWheel to 45 km/h; spare parts are in the tuning kits. Riding tuned is only allowed on private or enclosed property; on public roads a maximum of 25 km/h pedal assist applies.

Fitting

You fit a new controller yourself. First remove the saddle from the bike, so you can get to the controller easily. Take a photo of the old connections and then connect the 5 cables one by one. Does this controller work with both batteries of the V29 Pro?

This controller is intended for the QMWheel V29 Pro Dual Battery with a red motor plug. If you are unsure about your own bike, send a photo of the plug via WhatsApp.

Do I need a different display for tuning?

Yes. For 45 km/h you use the tunable H6C display. With it you activate the higher speed using a code.

Am I allowed to ride tuned on public roads?

No. That is only allowed on private or enclosed property. With the kill switch on the display you set the bike back to 25 km/h.

Is fitting difficult?

No. You remove the saddle from the bike and connect 5 cables. A photo of the old connections prevents mistakes.
