For the red motor plug Wrong colour? Then the plug won't fit.
Step by step How do I check my motor plug colour?

How to check which motor plug colour your fatbike has

All you need is a pair of wire cutters and it takes a minute. The colour is on the inside of the motor plug, so you'll need to pull it apart. That's fine: it won't damage the plug.

1 minute Just wire cutters No experience needed
  1. Fatbike on its stand, with the motor in the rear wheel

    Go to the rear wheel

Put your fatbike on its stand. The motor is in the rear wheel, and one thick cable comes out of it: the motor cable.

  2. Cutting the cable tie around a fatbike's motor cable with wire cutters

Follow the motor cable to the plug

The motor cable runs along the frame to the first plug. It's usually held in place with two cable ties. Cut the first one.

  3. Cutting the second cable tie at the motor plug

Cut the second cable tie too

Now the plug hangs free and you can get a good grip on it.

  4. Holding a fatbike's motor plug by hand

Hold the plug on both sides

Hold it by the thick plug housings, not by the thin wires.

  5. A fatbike's motor plug pulled apart, with the pins visible

    Pull the plug firmly apart

It's a tight fit, so don't be afraid to pull hard. The plug won't break.

  6. Red inside of a fatbike motor plug with pins

    Look at the inside

Where the pins stick out you'll see the colour: red or black. That's your motor plug colour.

Done? Push the plug firmly back together (the pins only fit one way) and, if you like, put a new cable tie around it.
For the red motor plug

This controller only fits if the inside of your fatbike's motor plug is this colour. Not sure? You can check it in 1 minute.

Product information

The benefits at a glance

  • Tunable up to 45 km/h
  • Restricted: 6 km/h throttle
  • 5 cables, no alarm
  • Suitable for: QMWheel V20 Pro Skinny Bike (narrow tyres) with red motor cable
  • Version: 21A, 500W, red motor plug, 5 cables without alarm connector
  • Speed: tunable up to 45 km/h off public roads, delivered limited

The Skinny Bike is a V20 Pro on narrow tyres; the motor and the red motor plug are identical to those of the regular V20 Pro. This controller therefore delivers exactly the same control and reaches 45 km/h together with a tunable H6C display with killswitch.

Without a tunable display nothing changes about the speed: the controller is delivered limited and then stays at 25 km/h. If your Skinny Bike has a black motor plug, this model does not fit; do the Colour Check before you order. Fitting: remove the saddle, move five plugs over.

Good to know

Fitting a new controller on your QMWheel V20 Pro Skinny Bike is actually very simple: there are only 5 cables you need to connect. Still not working out? Just message us on WhatsApp at 06 82090642 and we will help you out quickly.

Pro tip: take the saddle off the bike first, that way you can easily reach the controller to replace it.

Please note

Important: this controller is intended for the QMWheel V20 Pro Skinny Bike and only works in combination with a red motor cable. Do you have a different fatbike model? Then you need a controller that matches it. On our site you will find the right controller for your model.

Software

Difference between restricted and tunable: it is in the software, not in the number of amps.

QMWheel V20 Pro Skinny Bike tunable controller: red motor plug, 500W

If you ride the QMWheel V20 Pro Skinny Bike, you need a controller that matches the motor. This tunable controller has a red motor plug and delivers 500W. It arrives restricted and can be tuned up to 45 km/h on private property.

You can order through FatbikeKlaar.nl; from Belgium you can do so through FatbikeKlaar.be and in English through FatbikeKlaar.com.

Which bike is this controller for?

The controller is intended for the QMWheel V20 Pro Skinny Bike. That is the V20 Pro on narrow 20 inch tyres, with disc brakes, front suspension and a 48V / 15Ah / 720Wh battery. Tuning works the same way as on the QMWheel V20 Pro.

You need it if your old controller is faulty or damaged, or if you want to tune a restricted Skinny Bike later. If you order the bike in the Tunable version, the controller is already included and you do not need to buy it separately.

What the controller does

The controller distributes the current from the battery to the motor. That is how it determines how strongly and up to what speed the motor assists.

Specifications

  • Motor plug: red, not suitable for a black plug.
  • Power: 500W.
  • Connections: 5 cables, no alarm connection.
  • Restricted as standard: throttle up to 6 km/h as walk assist.
  • Tunable: up to 45 km/h.

Restricted on the cycle path

When restricted, the Skinny Bike remains an electric bike with pedal assist up to 25 km/h. That way you ride legally on cycle paths and in town without a driving licence or number plate. That is where the narrow tyres come into their own, as they roll easily on tarmac.

Tuning: what is possible and what is allowed

To tune up to 45 km/h, you combine this controller with the tunable H6C display. You activate the higher speed with a tuning code. With the kill switch you go back to 25 km/h: hold two buttons for about 3 seconds. You will find more explanation in the article Tuning the QMWheel V20 to 45 km/h and separate parts in the tuning kits. Riding tuned is only allowed on private or enclosed property; on public roads a maximum of 25 km/h pedal assist applies.

Fitting

You reach the controller most easily if you first remove the saddle from the bike. Then you connect 5 cables. Take a photo of the old connections beforehand, so you can see exactly which plug goes where. After fitting, test in restricted mode first. Can't work it out? Send us a WhatsApp message at 06 82090642.

Frequently asked questions about the Skinny Bike controller

How do I know whether my Skinny Bike has a red motor plug?

Look at the plug in the cable between the motor and the controller. If it is red, this controller fits. With a black plug you need a different type.

Do I also need a different display?

For tuning, yes. With the tunable H6C display you activate the higher speed with a code and switch back with the kill switch.

Am I allowed to ride tuned on the cycle path?

No. Riding tuned is only allowed on private or enclosed property. On the cycle path and public roads you ride restricted to 25 km/h.

Is the controller delivered fitted?

No, you receive it as a separate part. You first remove the saddle from the bike and then connect 5 cables. Need help? Send us a WhatsApp message.
